More Information on the Men and Families Conference

If you want to know more details about the Call for Proposals, click above! DEADLINE for proposals is May 1, 2023.

The Men and Families Conference is a forward-thinking and innovative international conference that will collectively engage scholars, community organizations, professional practices, governmental agencies and other relevant stakeholders. Disentangling, critically reflecting, and navigating the evolving knowledge of how boys and men are involved in violence and abuse, whether as survivors, perpetrators, or both, over the course of their lives has gained significant interest.

The goal of the event is to include all relevant stakeholders who are either: (1) have or are experiencing violence and abuse within and/or outside of the family; (2) conducting research on issues of families and abuse; or (3) working directly with or advocating for survivors (community services, programs; law; policies). It is paramount for individuals to be open-minded, critically reflecting on our knowledge and skillsets to then have a safe and supportive environment to share and learn from each other so that we are positive change agents to move the field forward.

We are open to new theoretical frameworks, models and conceptualization of abuse; male- and female-perpetrated intimate partner violence; fathering, fatherhood and abuse; co-parenting, parenting challenges in high conflict situations/union breakdowns; childhood trauma/abuse, abuse against children; community violence; mental health, addictions; programs and services; legal laws and issues; experiences of abuse across ethnic, cultural, religious, and LGBTQ+ identities; fatherlessness; controlling, coercive behaviours; surviving women’s and men’s lived experiences; Indigenous perspectives on abuse; community violence and wars; abuse and lifespan perspectives; early romantic relationships; gender and sexual identities; homicide; traumatic brain injury and abuse; programs and services for women and/or men; family mediation; and parenting coordination.
